Darlene Mary (Kueny) Galkowski 94, died on December 29, 2024, on the 100th anniversary of her husband Robert E. Galkowski's birth.
Born in Danbury, Iowa, she was one of 14 children to the late William and Anna (Price) Kueny. She graduated from St. Vincent School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa. She met her husband Robert when they both worked as medical professionals during the polio epidemic, giving direct patient care.
Darlene was a loving mother and a lifelong devout Catholic. A light of faith, she shared Christ's love with all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children Lawrence Galkowski, Robert (Kris) Galkowski, Gerald Galkowski, Teresa (Chris) Grant, Ann Galkowski and Peter (Sheila) Galkowski, and loving grandmother to 21 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. She loved her family and was delighted by her visits with her children and grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughters Rita Kelly and Mary Galkowski, as well as many siblings and extended relatives.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of John Clarke Senior Living for their excellent care.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, January 3, 2025, in Jesus Saviour Church, 509 Broadway, Newport at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery, 465 Browns Ln, Middletown. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made in their mother's memory to John Clarke Senior Living, c/o Activities Fund, 600 Valley Rd, Middletown, RI 02842.
