Darlene Nowak

Darlene Johanna Nowak, 87, of Monett, MO, was called home to her Lord and Savior on Friday morning, May 17, 2024 while at Lacoba Homes in Monett.
Darlene was born on May 29, 1936 in Pierre, S.D., daughter of the late Ludwig and Johanna (Bauer) Scotvold. Darlene was a graduate of Monett High School and was a lifelong Lutheran, being a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett. She was a member of the Quilting group and volunteered with the Braille workers at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Throughout her working years, Darlene worked for Vaisey Bristol Shoe Company and then for many years, she worked with her husband, as they owned and operated Nowak Refrigeration and Heating. In her spare time, she enjoyed making and donating her quilts, gardening and fishing. She and her husband enjoyed spending time in Texas in the winters as well.
On April 4, 1959 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett, Darlene Scotvold and Stanley W. Nowak were united in marriage. They were blessed with two children and many wonderful memories made together before his passing on January 4, 2024.
Survivors include her daughter, Theresa Freiburger, of El Dorado Springs, MO; three grandchildren, Nicole Nowak, Jeron and Brennen Freiburger; two great-grandchildren, Hilde and Zelig Freiburger; her twin-sister, Marlene Coose, of Lockwood, MO; one brother-in-law, Jan Nowak of St. Louis, MO; two sisters-in-law, Jane Winton of Monett and Maria Nowak of St. Louis, MO; as well as a host of extended family and friends that loved her dearly.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley; and her son, Steve Nowak.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett. Reverend Andrew Kennell will be officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in the McCormick-St. John's Cemetery, Monett. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
