Darlene Olson

Darlene Joy Ness Olson of LaMoure, ND passed away September 26, 2025 at St. Rose Care Center in LaMoure.

She was born May 23, 1929 on the family farm in Badger Township near Berlin, ND to Albert and Nia (Nelson) Ness. She attended rural school in Badger Township #1 and graduated from LaMoure High School in 1948. During her high school years, she participated in Drum & Bugle Corp., Glee Club and school plays.

Darlene was united in marriage to Harvey V. Olson on August 12, 1948 in Aberdeen, SD. They made their home in LaMoure where they raised their three children Terry, Sherri and Barry. Darlene and Harvey were married for 52 years when he passed away on December 29, 2000.

During her high school years, Darlene worked at the Candy Store in LaMoure. In 1958, she began working at the LaMoure Community Hospital as a nurse's aid and worked there until 1970, when she became employed as a Social Service Homemaker for LaMoure County. Darlene became deputy clerk for LaMoure County Register of Deeds in 1971, and then ran for office serving two terms as Register of Deeds, retiring in 1994.

On May 12, 2009, she married Jerome V. Rasmusson. He passed away November 30, 2024, after 15 years of marriage.

Darlene was active in the community. She was a volunteer for the LaMoure Ambulance and the LaMoure County Food Bank, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and she sang with the Megatones Women's Barbershop Harmony. Darlene also enjoyed singing at various events including friends' weddings, Christmas Eve services, church services and funerals. She was a member of High Prairie Lutheran Church and Zoar Lutheran Church where she also taught Sunday School. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, lefse baking, singing, and she loved being a homemaker for her husband and children.

She is survived by her three children & their families, Terry and Caline Olson, Nia and Joel, Logan & Avary Barthalomay; Joshua and Karla, Noah & Kaden Olson; Maggie and Jack, Ava Joy, Julia & Lincoln Foster; Katie and Mike, Dawson & Samuel Buttram. Sherri Joy Olson Rubeck, Levi & Caroline Rubeck, Shaun Rubeck and his son Eyvand. Barry and Gail Olson, Seth Olson & Jeffery Wilson, Erin and Danny, Devin & Piper Navarro, Tyne and Brent, Tavlyn & Ambria Joy Corrigan. Darlene is also survived by Jerome Ramusson family and his extended family and many nieces & nephews and their families.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Harvey and Jerome, brother Elroy, and grandson, Shane Rodney Olson.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2025 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. followed by the funeral at 3:00 p.m. at Zoar Lutheran Church in LaMoure. Darlene's service will be live streamed on our website on her obituary page. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery near LaMoure.

Memorials are preferred to Zoar Lutheran Church, St. Rose Care Center or the LaMoure Ambulance.
