Darlene Ann Smietanski, 72, of Perrysburg, OH passed away peacefully on December 25, 2023 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born July 25, 1951 to George and Carole Danko, Darlene was the beloved eldest sister of four. She graduated from Bowsher High School in 1969 and later went on to acquire her veterinarian technician's license, turning her love of animals into a career. She and her husband, William Smietanski, had three sons, and Darlene acted as a second mother to many of her sons' friends, embracing them and treating them with unique humor and abundant compassion.
Darlene's laugh, a feature of the humor with which she approached life, could fill a room with cheerfulness, and her generosity was felt by many in need of it.
One of her favorite things in life was spending time at her cottage with her grandchildren, and her welcoming nature always encouraged others to visit anytime. Darlene loved playing bunco with her friends, crafting in many forms, and finding excellent bargains at garage sales.
Left to cherish Darlene's memory are her husband of 51 years, William Smietanski; children, Adam (Heather) Smietanski, Thomas (Sarai) Smietanski; siblings, Kathy (Edwin) Kane, Barb (Gary) Rabbitt, George (Amy) Danko; many nieces and nephews; and five treasured grandchildren.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and son, Andrew Smietanski.
Family and friends may visit Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral home in Maumee, Ohio on Friday, January 5, 2024, from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Fort Meigs Cemetery.

Darlene made everyone smile. Her effusive approach to life made her an immediate friend to all who met her. We will not forget her smile, or the "black silk". The world lost a bright star on Christmas, but heaven gained one. Godspeed Dar.
