Darlene L. Smith, 87, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 6, 2026. She was born in New Albany, Indiana on September 16, 1938 to the late Theodore and Elizabeth Iola Russell Smyser. Darlene was a life long member of Bethel AME Church of New Albany and a retired employee of Pillsbury as a lab technician.
Darlene was preceded in death by her grandson Greg Smith; brother, George S. Marshall; and sister, Dolores I. Hobbs.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Gregory (Tina) Smith, Rhonda Kaye (Lonnie) Collier, Delbert Eugene (Geno) Smith, Pamela S. Brito, and Karen (Danny) Forte who cared for her; She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of relatives and dear friends.
Cremation was chosen with no services.
Psalm 73:26; "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
