Darlene R. Widner, 92, of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, September 26, 2025, at Riverside Global Methodist Church with Minister Kathy Flaugh officiating. Following the service, there will be a luncheon and time of fellowship. Burial will take place at Logan Park Cemetery.
Darlene was born December 12, 1932, in Sioux City, the daughter of Jay C. and Margaret (Marshall) Lynberg. She graduated from Central High School in 1951. She did office work over the years at various places, including New York Life Insurance Company and the Iowa Air National Guard.
She married Robert “Bob” L. Widner on May 1, 1952, in Sioux City.
She was a member of Riverside Global Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher, and a member of the RUML and Circle. She was a Cub Scout den mother, past member of the Sioux City Policeman’s Association Auxiliary, TTT Chapter BM and the Siouxland Samplers Quilt Guild.
Survivors include her son, Michael “Mick” Widner of Valdosta, GA; two grandchildren: Sarah (Stacy) McCoy of Papillion, NE and Adam (Kim) Widner of Papillion, NE; five great grandchildren: Grace Vance, Avery McCoy, Rylee Widner, Bailey Widner, and Milo McCoy; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert “Bob” L. Widner; one son, Joseph Widner; and two sisters: Betty Lynberg (at age 4) and Dorothy Kjer in 2006.
Memorials in Darlene’s name are suggested to Riverside Global Methodist Church or charity of the donor’s choice.
