Darlin "Joann" Lacks

Darlin "Joann" McGlothlin Lacks, aged 85, died at her home in Harbinger, North Carolina, on March 11, 2025. Born on February 18, 1940, in Cleveland, Virginia, to the late Lowell Gene McGlothlin and Minnie Opal McGuire McGlothlin, she was the widow of Robert "Bob" Albury. Joann lived a full and vibrant life dedicated to her family, work, and passions.
Joann was a devoted office assistant for the government, where she displayed unwavering dedication and professionalism until her retirement at the age of 79. Her colleagues and friends remember her as a reliable and compassionate individual who always went above and beyond in her duties. In her personal life, Joann found joy in the simple pleasures. She loved to cook and took great pride in cooking and canning for her family and friends. She also loved her plants and flowers and spent many days creating beautiful flower gardens to brighten her yard. Additionally, she cherished the moments spent at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) with her late husband, Bob, where they shared laughter and camaraderie.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Cheryl Sundstrom and her husband, John; her brother, Ronald McGlothlin and his wife, Sandy; her cherished grandchildren, Amanda Sundstrom and her husband, Andrew, and Shelby Sundstrom and her husband, Bob; and her precious great-grandchild, Finn Sundstrom. Joann was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Bob; and one sister and four brothers.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Joann's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Twiford Memorial Chapel. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories of a life well-lived and a woman well-loved. Joann will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
