Darold Raszler Obituary

Darold Dale Raszler

BISMARCK - Darold Dale Raszler, 69, passed away peacefully at Benedictine Living Community on November 2, 2023.

A funeral will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.

Visitation will begin an hour before the service.

Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Darold was born in La Jolla, CA on December 22, 1953 to Ruben and Otilla (Beck) Raszler. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, CA in 1972.

Upon graduation, he obtained a job doing janitorial work at the Marine Corp Beach. In 1994, Darold and his family moved to Dodge, ND. He lived in a group home managed by Knife River for a short time and moved to Wilton's Redwood Village for three years before residing in a group home through Pride, Inc. in 2007.

Darold started receiving services from Catholic Charities North Dakota in 2004. During his time at Pride, Darold worked on a cleaning crew and was an excellent worker, often described as a very valuable employee. He took great pride in his work.

In 2019, Darold was diagnosed with Polyarteritis Nodosa and temporarily received care at a nursing facility in Garrison. Once he moved back home, Darold retired and enjoyed attending the Gracefully Aging Day Program through Pride with his peers.

In 2022, Darold suffered a stroke and moved into Benedictine Living Community in Bismarck. He was blessed to have many supportive, loyal, and excellent staff in his homes and day programs that worked with him for many years. Darold's staff, housemates, and day program peers were very important to him throughout his life and were seen as family to him.

He loved to be involved in community activities. Darold liked attending sports games, concerts, musical symphonies, plays, church suppers, and going to movies with his staff, family, and friends. He also enjoyed travelling and looked back fondly on his trips. He took vacations to Oregon, Florida, Hawaii, California, Wisconsin, and he partook in an Alaskan cruise. One of his favorite memories was getting to attend a Cardinal's baseball game in Wisconsin and the MLB Baseball Spring Training in Florida.

Darold had a gentle kindness about him that touched many lives. His warm smile was infectious, and it always spread to his eyes, lighting up his whole face. He rarely ever complained about anything, even when he was in pain and had broken bones. Darold also kept his staff on their toes, often hiding his hearing aids or other belongings in his shoes, socks, and tissue boxes, joking that he did not know where they disappeared to. His chuckles, once they were found, was contagious. Darold was a gift to those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ruben and Otilla (Beck) Raszler and brother, Larry Raszler.

Darold is survived by his brothers: Rudolph "Rudy", Melvin, James, and Alvin Raszler; his adopted family, The Diede's; special friend, Kelsey; and his friends and staff at the group home.
