Darrel Cruthis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by James Funeral Home on Jan. 27, 2026.
Darrel William "Bill" Cruthis, RPh, of Denver, born December 22, 1946, in Clinton, Illinois, passed away on January 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the son of H. Darrel and Patricia Cruthis of Clinton, Illinois.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Judy Armstrong, of Denver, North Carolina; his stepson Shon Moore; granddaughter Megan Ambrose and her husband, Robby Ambrose; and his greatgrandson Elijah, all of Rochester, Illinois.

A proud graduate of Clinton High School in Clinton, Illinois, Bill earned his pharmacy degree from the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis in 1969. He dedicated his life to the profession, working as a pharmacist at CVS for 46 years and at Walmart for 26 years, where he also served as a store manager, district manager, and regional manager. During his tenure with Walmart, he was honored as District Manager of the Year in 1998 and Pharmacy Merchant of the Year in 1999, recognitions that reflected his strong work ethic and leadership.

Bill's love of sports followed him throughout his life. He was a proud member of the School of Pharmacy basketball team, which was later inducted into the University Hall of Fame-a distinction he treasured.

A lifelong Corvette enthusiast, Bill owned 13 Corvettes over the years, beginning with a 1968 model and concluding with a 2024E-ray model. His passion for the Corvette community was evident in his many contributions. He was a long-time member of Queen City Corvette Club, in Charlotte, NC, serving as vice-president and president, and earned the Club's Lifetime Service Achievement Award. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of both the Central Illinois Corvette Club and the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

For 11 years, Bill and Judy poured their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit into Albertine Florals, a floral business they lovingly operated in Denver, North Carolina.

Bill will be remembered for his dedication, generosity, enthusiasm for life, and his deep love for family. His presence will be missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Dr., Huntersville, NC, on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at Magnolia Woods, 12125 Statesville Rd., Huntersville, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Corvette Museum in honor of Bill.
