Joseph David Cruthis, 67, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025. It is with heartbreaking sadness that we share David was carried home to be with Jesus.
Born on February 1, 1958, David grew up in Greensboro, NC, and graduated from Southeast Guilford High School in 1977. After completing an electrician’s course at GTI, he worked as an electrician before dedicating over 40 years to the cable television and internet industry. He began his career with Cablevision in 1988, continuing through its evolution into Time Warner Cable and eventually Spectrum during the dawn of the internet age. He retired in February 2020.
David was a loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather. He found joy in fishing and spent countless hours in his garage, where he earned the beloved nickname “Mr. Fix-it.” David will be greatly missed by his friends at New Salem UMC and the 311 Flea Market.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Anne; his son, Adam, and daughter-in-law, Amy, of Asheboro, NC; and his daughter, Sarah Underwood, and son-in-law, Matthew, of Kannapolis, NC. David also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Noah, Isaac, and Luke Cruthis, as well as Alexander, Jefferson, and Cora Underwood, who will deeply miss their beloved "Pappa." He is also survived by his sister, Bonita Johnson, and brother-in-law, Jonny, of Brown Summit, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Riley Cruthis and Annie Ruth Wood Cruthis, and his brother, Richard Mark Cruthis. All who knew him will mourn this gentle giant for years to come.
The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to dear friends Ben and Julie Goslen and Brian and Jean Dodd for their love and support through this difficult time.
A visitation will be held at New Salem United Methodist Church in Randleman, NC, on Thursday, July 17th, at 10 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11 AM. Reverends Lowell McNaney of Crossroads Church of Concord, NC, and Steve Bergkamp of New Salem UMC, along with Ben Goslen, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in David's name be made to New Salem Methodist Church, PO Box 303, Randleman, NC 27317.
