Betty Lou Phillips (Wills), age 87, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on January 31st from respiratory arrest.

Betty was born in Clinton, Illinois, to Willam and Opal (Walker) Wills on June 23, 1938. She graduated from Clinton High school in 1956. On August 22, 1958, she married the love of her life, Alvin Phillips and they moved to Des Moines in 1960 where they would soon raise their family.

Betty loved to work and had many rewarding jobs. She began working at George's Shack in Clinton. While raising her family she was a beloved lunch lady at Perkins Elementary School and ended her career with her favorite co-workers at Excel Business Supply. She brought so much joy and laughter to those who knew her.

Betty enjoyed sewing, square dancing with Alvin and bowled on many leagues. She loved ceramic classes and she was a wonderful cook. She was an avid supporter of the Animal Rescue League and loved her pets dearly,

Betty is survived by her husband of 67 years, Alvin Phillips, her daughter Audra (Rick) Nelson, her cherished grandchildren Sophia (Grant) Stevens, Grant (Audra) Nelson, AJ (KJ) Phillips and Christine Norris, great grandchildren Dillon (Elizabeth) Norris and Lola Phillips, her sister Debbie (Russell) Forsythe, her brother-in-law Richard Phillips, her nephew Mike Phillips, her niece Lisa (Robert) Benjamin and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son Andy Phillips, her parents William and Opal Wills, her mother-in-law Evangeline Phillips, her sister-in-law Karen Phillips and her nephew John Phillips.

Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00pm on Saturday, February 7th at Iles Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA 50322. There will be a private family service following the visitation.

Donations can be made in Betty's memory to the Animal Rescue League of Des Moines and the National Breast Cancer Society.
