Deborah Freese Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Westover Chapel on Mar. 19, 2026.
Deborah Lyne Freese, age 63, of Clive, Iowa, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, at EveryStep Kavanagh House in Des Moines, following a courageous 2-year battle with glioblastoma.

Deborah was born on March 2, 1963, in Springfield, Illinois, to Quintin Hankey Edris and Charlie Fae Curry. She spent her childhood years in Illinois and graduated from Lamoni High School before making the Des Moines area her home for more than 40 years. Deborah earned an associate degree from AIB and built a successful career in food and beverage sales and marketing with Anheuser-Busch, Red Bull, Sysco Foods, & Kraft Heinz before retiring. On July 10, 2015, Deborah married the love of her life, Brian Dean Freese.

Deborah was a woman of deep faith and service. She was an active member of Westview Church, where she joyfully participated in children's ministry and Vacation Bible School. Her heart for helping others extended beyond the church-she supported CASA and adoptive parent initiatives and took great pride in her licensed therapy dogs, sharing comfort wherever it was needed.

She embraced life fully and found joy in horseback riding, golf, gardening, great times at Hyperion Field Club, and especially in being "Grandma." Deborah adored her grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them.

Deborah is survived by her husband, Brian Freese of Clive; her children: Ashleigh Bunting (Zach Cash) of Ankeny, Laura Thomson of Ankeny, Meridith (Alex) McCarty of Urbandale, and Benjamin Freese (Fiance Madison Seefeld) of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; and her beloved grandchildren: Kathryn, Cooper, Kaylin, Henry, Jack, Charlee, David, Hayes, and Lily. She is also survived by her step mother, Patricia Edris, and siblings: Phil (Kate) Edris of Richmond, Virginia; Jerri (Clipper) Hogarth of Jacksonville, North Carolina; Jannetta (Mike) England of Brazil, Indiana; Cheryl Waelbroeck of Mascoutah, Illinois; John (Pam) Edris of Carthage, llinois; Garold (Melissa) Edris of Evansville, Indiana; and sister-in-law Sue Edris of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Deborah was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Gary Edris and Kim Edris.

Services will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Westview Church in Waukee, Iowa. A visitation will be from 10:00-11:30 AM with the service to begin at Noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to EveryStep Kavanagh House.
