Barbara Schiek Obituary
Barbara was born on March 25, 1936, in Belmond, Iowa, to James and Josephine (Mossman) Mariga. She graduated from Belmond High School. She married Fred Schiek on January 26th, 1957.
Barbara was employed at the Speech Department at Drake University and UNO for many years, where she was a dedicated and valued employee until her retirement. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Rosary Society and many other church groups as well as volunteering for other organizations.
She will be remembered for the enjoyment she received from watching Drake basketball games, the Cubs and The Des Moines Playhouse. She also was an avid bridge player.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her family: daughter, Mary Jo (Scott) Youngberg; son-in-law, John Popowitz; grandchildren, Heather Youngberg, Justin (Shannon) Youngberg, Amanda (Jordan) Olsen, and Kaelyn Popowitz; and great-grandson, Owen Olsen.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Fred Schiek; daughter Patty, parents and brother.
Barbara will be remembered for her kindness, devotion to her family and helping others.
