Darrel Elyea Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory - Loves Park on Sep. 27, 2023.
Darrel Gene "Butch" Elyea, 77, of Davis Junction left us on September 26, 2023, surrounded by his family. Darrel was born in Wisconsin, on September 17th, 1946, to Eugene Eylea and Bernice Broady. He married Jimmie (Farel) Elyea, the love of his life, on September 11th, 1971, in Woodstock, IL. Together they had 1 daughter, Heather (Pedro) Arenas who gave them 2 granddaughters, Rikki and Randi, and 1 great-granddaughter Mila. He also had one son, Timothy (Neti) Elyea who gave them 4 granddaughters, Morgan, Macey, Taylor, and Toni. Also 2 great-grandchildren, Gavin and Avery.
Darrel is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as his siblings, Mike Elyea and Don Elyea. Predeceased by his parents; brothers, Sydney, Richie, and Charles; sisters, Virginia and Marcella; and his loving wife, Jimmie.
Darrel loved riding his motorcycle, shooting for fun, fishing, telling jokes and stories, showing off the new tricks he'd taught his dogs, sharpening knives, tinkering in his garage, and laughing and having fun. Darrel is loved by everyone who knew him, and if you did then you know he loved all his friends as his family. He was known mostly as Butch, Big Butch, Boss, Uncle Butch, Rascal, and of course Dad, Daddy and Papa.
His family would like to thank a few people that always went above and beyond for Butch; his son-in-law Pedro and nephew Shawn Edwards, who would always drop everything to help him, and Butch thought of them as second sons. Shawn's wife Rachele and other members of the Edwards family, and all that came to help him when called on, whether it be to help after a fall, building ramps for his scooter/wheelchair, helping with his dog, Harley, or anything else that was asked of them. His very close friends who he loved talking to and always brightened his day, and those who came to visit him in his final days. There are too many to name all, but if you ever rode with him, hung out with him, or sat and talked with him on the phone, you're one of them.
