In the morning hours of May 17, 2025, Darrel Eugene Palmer, age 74, of Wilmington, DE departed this life peacefully at home following a long illness.
Darrel was born on March 24, 1951, in Elgin, Illinois to the late Gilbert and Clara (LeHew) Palmer. He was a member of the 1969 graduating class of Hanover High School in Hanover, Illinois, and attended DeVry Addison University where he graduated in 1995. He retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Elsmere, DE where he worked in Information Technology.
Darrel was a veteran who faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army for sixteen years as a platoon sergeant. He was a very outgoing person who in his spare time loved to socialize with friends and ride his motorcycle. No matter what the situation, he was always upbeat and positive, and well-known for his sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, Darrel was preceded in death by his beloved brother Terry. He is survived by his wife, Marlyn, daughter, Desiree Brown, three grandsons and extended family.
A visitation will take place on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 6 p.m. followed by a service at 7 p.m. at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805. A private burial will take place at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear.
Darrel, you will be fondly remembered and very missed. May you rest in peace.
