Darrel Roy Startin SR.

Darrel Startin was born on November 18, 1934, in Dayton, Washington, where he spent his childhood and graduated from Dayton High School in 1953. His early school years were in a humble two-room schoolhouse, a testament to his roots in a close-knit community.

In May of 1954, Darrel married the love of his life, Ruth, whom he met while working for the telephone company-Darrel as a lineman and Ruth as a telephone operator. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised seven children: Darrel Jr. (Joni) of Spokane, Roxane Clow (Keith) of Kennewick, Rodney (Kelly) of Spokane, Kim of Spokane, Johnny (John Ruark), Lisa (David Maloney) of Yreka, CA, and infant son Wallace Wayne, who preceded him in death.

Darrel was a man of deep family values and simple joys. He loved camping and fishing, sharing stories of his truck-driving days, and watching car and train shows on TV. His greatest happiness came from time spent with family-telling tales to his children, grandchildren, and friends near and far.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth, infant son Wallace, his parents Roy and Daisy Startin, siblings Leo, Phyllis Trout, Leanmae Freeburn, Dorothy Brodhead, Robert, and Gayle Startin, grandparents Joseph and Roberta Startin, and grandson Andrew Startin.

Darrel leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through his six surviving children, 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. His stories, kindness, and unwavering devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
