Darrell Kenneth Colbert Jr., a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, teammate, and friend, passed away on October 24, 2025, at the age of 45. Born on September 3, 1980, Darrell’s life was characterized by an outgoing personality, a beautiful smile, and a profound love for helping others. His spirit of encouragement touched the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Growing up in Charlotte, North Carolina, Darrell made significant strides during his high school years at West Charlotte High School, where he distinguished himself as a member of the record-setting relay team. His exceptional talents earned him a scholarship to North Carolina A&T, where he further demonstrated his commitment to excellence both on and off the track.
As a Godfather, Darrell embraced his role with love and dedication, serving as a guiding light for those around him. He was not only a remarkable athlete but also a steadfast friend and supporter. His genuine approach to life and innate ability to uplift those around him will be remembered fondly by his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on November 1, 2025, at Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas, located at 4155 S R. L. Thornton Fwy, Dallas, TX, at 11:00 AM. There will also be a Viewing at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1300 Hateras Avenue, Charlotte, NC, on November 8, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by another Celebration of Life at the same location at 12:00 Noon
Darrell’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he impacted and the memories shared with those who knew him best. He is cherished for his unwavering support, zest for life, and the lasting impression he left on all.
