Howdy!
Darrell Lynn Davis was born on September 8, 1964, in Henrietta, Texas, to Norma Dell Fowler Crumley and Allan Ray Davis. In 1969, his mother, sister Joy Maughn, and brother Steve Davis moved to Dripping Springs. A few years later, in the early 1970s, his mom married Charlie Crumley, and the family settled at the Crumley Ranch.
It was on this ranch that Darrell found his forever. He and his Paw Charlie spent countless hours working side by side, talking about the history and future of the land. Darrell became the third generation to live and work on the ranch his Grandpa Crumley purchased in the early 1900s. The time he spent with these two men shaped the man he would become, instilling in him a love of the land, a respect for hard work, and a collection of stories, treasures, and memories that lasted his lifetime.
Darrell's strong work ethic showed early. Though the ranch was always a constant, he pursued many opportunities to build his skills. At seventeen he discovered his love for construction, especially lath and plastering. He learned the trade from many master's and eventually started his own company, D & D, which gave him the means to support the ranch and provide for himself.
Later, Darrell joined the Lake Travis Independent School District, starting in General Maintenance. His dedication and work ethic quickly stood out, leading to promotions as Locksmith and Key Specialist and later Building Lead. Throughout his years with LTISD, Darrell earned the respect of colleagues and built friendships that lasted well beyond the workplace.
But Darrell's journey was not without trials. During these years he faced a difficult battle with alcohol. It was a dark season marked by loss and near-death experiences. One night, weary and at the end of himself, Darrell cried out to God for deliverance. By morning, he realized his desire for alcohol was gone, completely removed. From that day forward, Darrell began walking a new path, following Jesus.
He never stopped sharing that testimony. To anyone who would listen, Darrell told of God's power to rescue him and restore his life. He lived out his faith daily, reflecting the love and teachings of Jesus until his final breath.
Darrell is survived by his devoted sister Joy Maughn who stood faithfully by his side throughout his final year. He was preceded in death by his mother Norma Del Fowler Crumley, Charlie Crumley, and his father Allan Ray Davis.
He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and an extended family who loved him dearly.
The countless friendships Darrell made are a true reflection of the love, kindness, and generosity he poured into others. His life and legacy will be remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
