February 5, 1964 – April 23, 2025
Darrell Lewis Freeman, Sr., a devoted husband, father, veteran, and friend, passed away on April 23, 2025, at the age of 61. Born on February 5, 1964, in Atlanta, Georgia, Darrell was raised in
East Point, Georgia, the seventh of eight children born to the late Charlie and Annie Jean Freeman.
Darrell graduated from Joseph E. Brown High School in 1982 and entered the United States Army in 1983, where he found his calling and built a distinguished career. During his military service, he furthered his education and served proudly in various roles, including Battalion Training Management Systems, Air Assault, and Airborne Instructor Trainer. He was a dedicated serviceman and retired as a 100% disabled veteran, honored for his commitment and sacrifice.
Following his military retirement, Darrell worked as a Property Supervisor for L&W Supply Company before embracing entrepreneurship and founding Freeman Car Detail Company, LLC-demonstrating his drive, work ethic, and passion for excellence.
In 1991, Darrell met the love of his life, Annette Babineaux, while serving as her Airborne Instructor at Fort Benning. The two married later that year and built a life rooted in love, strength, and unity. Together, they raised three sons: Darrell Lewis Freeman, Jr. (1992), Derrick Lamar Freeman (1994), and Devin Lydell Freeman (1999). He also leaves behind a cherished grandson, Derrick Lamar Freeman, Jr.
Darrell will be remembered as the life of the party-joyful, generous, and full of heart. He was always ready to help others, lend a hand, or share a laugh. His presence lit up every room, and his legacy of love and service lives on through his family and all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie (2009) and Annie Jean Freeman (1994); sisters, Phyllis Ann Freeman (1993) and Cheryl Yvette Freeman (2017); and nephew, Roderick Shakon Freeman (2023).
Darrell is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Annette Babineaux Freeman; sons, Darrell Lewis Freeman, Jr., Derrick Lamar Freeman, and Devin Lydell Freeman; grandson, Derrick Lamar Freeman, Jr.; Sisters: Sandra Freeman (Shelman) Burton, Lynne Freeman (James) Turnipseed, Brothers: Donald L. Andrew, Charlie(Wendy) Freeman, Stephen A. Freeman, Joseph B Freeman, and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones who will miss him deeply.
