Darrell "Low Gear" Gardner, 55, of the Spring Creek Community in Hot Springs, NC, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025.
Darrell was a lifelong truck driver, Peterbilt Trucking Industry Icon, and was currently employed with Cody Trucking. He enjoyed aggravating others for his own entertainment. He was a wonderful father and wonderful friend to many. Darrell was a member of Fines Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Milt "Honey" Ray, grandmother, Grace Robinson Ray, and his uncle, Danny "Dink" Wallin.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Joyce; mother, Doris Penland (Quentin Austin); aunt, Shirley "Sis" Wallin; son, Jackson Ledford (Maleena); daughter, Jennifer Privette (Clayton); special daughter, Abegale King; grandson, Hayes Warren Privette; and several other extended family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Services with Reverends Jackson Ledford, Dennis Anderson, and Clyde Metcalf, Jr. officiating. Pallbearers will be: Jerry Dale Hunter, Dave Wells, Mark Wallin, Travis Teague, Trenton "TC" Metcalf, Quentin Austin, James Suttles, and Michael Cody. Burial will follow in the Gap of the Mountain Cemetery. If you would like to bring your truck, you're more than welcome to join for a short convoy.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:00 – 2:00 at the funeral home prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the family to assist with final expenses.
