Darrell Lee Haggard, 89, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 4, 1935, in Horton, Kansas, Darrell was the son of Irma Norene Rupe Long and Kelly John Haggard. A standout student and athlete, he graduated from Horton High School, was senior class president and served as captain of the football team. Darrell was a remarkable four-year, four-sport varsity athlete in high school, also playing football for Highland Community College, demonstrating leadership, discipline, and an unwavering competitive spirit early in life.

He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957, honoring his country with dedication and integrity.

Darrell married the love of his life, Ardath Ann Koelliker, and together they built a beautiful life centered around faith and family. They raised four sons: Doug (Laura), Brad (Luanne), Brett, and Darren (Jeana). His beloved and devoted wife Ardath preceded him in death in 2012, and Darrell carried her memory with him every day.

One of his greatest joys was Sunday lunches with his sons and their families - a cherished tradition filled with laughter, conversation, and closeness. Darrell was immensely proud of his nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who brought endless joy the moment they stepped into the room.

A passionate sports fan, Darrell especially loved baseball. He spent many years coaching his sons' teams, sharing life lessons through the game and enthusiastically cheering from the sidelines. He was a loyal Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan and treasured trips to spring training camps and family vacations to Maine, Florida, and anywhere his family gathered.

Darrell's faith was the cornerstone of his life. A devoted Christian, he gave generously of his time and heart, always ready to help others and support his church community.

He also possessed a keen and curious mind. A lifelong intellect, he loved reading, crossword puzzles, cards, and any game that challenged his sharp wit. Wheel of Fortune was his nightly ritual - a small but cherished joy that never faded.

Those who knew Darrell will forever remember his warmth, his humor, his faith, and the deep love he held for his family. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled: loyalty, perseverance, kindness, and an insatiable love of learning.

Darrell will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know him.

Thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at Mosaic Hospital, Long Term Acute Care Hospital.
