Darrell Ramon Hale, age 73, Vietnam Veteran 101st Airborne Division 1968-1969, of 76211 Longsworth Lane, Freeport died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, December 18, 2022.
Born January 19, 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio he was a son of the late Darwin Hale and raised by his late mother Violet McLaren Hale Horta and step-father, James Horta.
He attended West Tech High School in Cleveland and enjoyed playing baseball during his high school days.
Darrell was an army Vietnam Veteran 101st Airborne Division 1968 to 1969. He was a truck driver with the Teamsters Union in Cleveland, driving for Leaseway of Detroit, Michigan. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Cambridge and a member of the St. Matthias Catholic Church in Freeport.
His wife of twenty-four years, LuAnna Margaret Michael Hale, survives. They were married January 19, 1998.
Also surviving are a son, Darrell James (Mary) Hale of Shreve, Ohio; a step-son, Darryn Oliver of Freeport; a step-daughter, Dreama Michael of Cleveland; a half-brother, Timothy Horta of LaGrange; a half-sister, Jimae Chambers of Seven Hills; ten grandchildren: Alyssa, Hunter, Michael, Nathan, Nichole, Natalie, Kaylie, Savannah, Darryn, and Issac; seven great-grandchildren: Mayra, Noah, Seth, Eren, Hunter, Warren, Lincoln, and a baby girl due in May.
Visitation will be held in Koch Funeral Home, 216 S High Street, Freeport, on Wednesday, December 21 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:45 p.m. led by Father Fred Kihm. Military graveside services led by the Guernsey County Honor Guard will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022 in Greenmont Union Cemetery, Freeport.
