Jacksonville - Darrell Vernon Headen, 91, of Jacksonville, IL, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 18, 1934, in Lynnville, the son of Verne and Bertha (Todd) Headen. He married Carolyn Hays on April 14, 1973, at Modesto Baptist Church, and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Robert (Jill) Headen; two grandsons, Jayson and AJ Headen, all of Jacksonville; one brother, Randy (Diane) Headen of Lynnville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill Headen; and three sisters, Colleen Ash, Melvina Butcher, and Shirley Loeffler.
Darrell attended school in Lynnville and Jacksonville. He was a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. He worked as a boiler operator at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital for almost 40 years. Darrell was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan. The only thing he loved more than Cardinals baseball was drinking coffee and spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, October 17, 2025, at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Modesto. The family will meet friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. The family requests Cardinals gear or casual attire to be worn to the services.
