Irvin Darrell Jones, age 86, of Adamsville (currently Lampasas), went home to be with the Lord on December 27, 2023.
Services will be held at Adamsville Baptist Church on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 10 am with visitation prior. Interment will follow at Hines Chapel Cemetery in Adamsville.
He was born as the second of five children to Luther D. (Luke) Jones and Lena Elizabeth (Green) Jones on August 11, 1937, and grew up in Adamsville. He graduated from Lampasas High School in 1955 and he served in the Texas National Guard and worked for Sprint telephone company, retiring in 1994 after 30 years of service.
Darrell married Shelba Dean Miller in 1958 and they had four children together: Pete, Bob, DeAnn, and Kimberly. Shelba preceded him in death in 1982 and he married Gilma Flatt in 1983. Gilma preceded him in death in 2017.
Darrell accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at a young age, and he was a wonderful example of God's love to all who knew him. He was a longtime member of the Adamsville Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon along with several other roles within the church. His other love was music and he operated the Luke Jones Music Hall in Adamsville for many years as well as traveling to hear Bluegrass and Gospel music being played.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luke and Lena; his wives, Shelba and Gilma; his brothers, Doug, Hiram, and Allen; sisters-in-law, Ann, Linda, and Thurma Nell; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Jones and great-grandson, Mason Van Zandt.
He is survived by his brother and best friend, Troy Jones of Adamsville; sons, Pete Jones and wife Cindy of Navasota; Bob Jones of Houston; daughters, DeAnn Holden and husband Lynn of Temple, Kimberly and husband Jason McDonald of Lampasas, Anna Coker of Decatur, and Amy LaPoe and husband Don of Evant; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
