Darrell Kunard

Darrell E. Kunard, 94, passed into eternity Thursday, August 15, 2024, in Overbrook KS.
Darrell was the second child born to Lewis L. and Wilma Hoopes Kunard on May 21, 1930, in Pomona KS. Darrell grew up in Idaho and Shawnee County KS, graduating from Berryton High School. Darrell joined the Navy in 1951. He was stationed in Alaska. He married Frances Kentch. They later divorced. Their daughter Debra Kay was born in September 1956.
Darrell married Sharon Smith on June 17, 1962, in Walnut, KS. She survives. Darrell and Sharon had two sons, Kyle Smith Kunard and Kane Edward Kunard.
Darrell worked as an auto parts counterman for several auto dealerships in Topeka. He retired in 1995.
He was a member of East Side Baptist Church, Topeka. To know Darrell was to have been loved by Darrell. He LOVED the KU Jayhawks and could wear a different Jayhawk shirt every day. He found great joy in his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Howard Kunard and Leland Kunard.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Sharon Smith Kunard; daughter, Debra (Robert) Aldrine, Overbrook KS; sons, Kyle (Cheryl) Kunard, Topeka KS and Kane (JJ) Kunard, Lee's Summit MO; grandchildren, Aaron (Andrea) Aldrine, Sara Aldrine, both of Topeka KS, Emma Kunard, Plano TX, Brennan Kunard and Isaac Kunard, Lee's Summit MO, August Swanson, Mary Grace Swanson, both of Lawrence KS, and Sophia Rose Swanson, Topeka KS; six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; sister Charlene Marney, Topeka KS, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Kevin Brennan Funeral Home 2801 SW Urish Rd, Topeka KS 66614, where memorial service will start at 11 a.m. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Berryton KS at a later date.
