Darrell Ray "Butch" Rexroad, 76, of Berlin Heights, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away July 8, 2025, after a lengthy illness.
Born January 4, 1949, in Amherst, Butch's life was one marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a deep-seated love for creation and innovation. Butch was the beloved son of the late Maynard and Joy Pina Davidson Rexroad. His childhood in Amherst shaped him into the man who would become known for his creative spirit and handy skills. He was a proud graduate of South Amherst High School, where he laid the foundation for his diverse professional and personal interests. After high school, Butch honorably served his country as a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, a period of his life that taught him the values of loyalty, courage, and resilience.
Upon returning home, he channeled his intelligent and industrious nature into a career in the tool and die industry. His entrepreneurial spirit later led him to own a construction company, and he spent several years as a dedicated truck driver, traversing the country and meeting people from all walks of life. Butch's commitment to his family was unwavering.
The legacy of his love and strength lives on through his wife of 55 years, Denise Bradner Rexroad; sons, Robert Allen Rexroad and Timothy Craig Rexroad (Jen Rexroad); and his adoring grandchildren, Audriana, Shelbie, Chase, Korigan, Elizabeth, Timothy, Alivia, and Gracelynn. His great-grandchildren, Kian, Lewis, Alia, Xander, and Xavier, will also hold dear the memory of their great-grandfather's warm presence and playful spirit.
He was preceded in death by his father, Maynard; his mother, Joy; and his sister, Susan Rexroad Jackson.
An individual of many interests, Butch found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was most at home in his workshop, where he tinkered and created, turning raw materials into treasures. His garden was a place of peace and productivity, yielding abundant harvests that he generously shared. Antiquing was another passion, as he saw the beauty and value in items with history and character. Most importantly Butch believed in the Lord Jesus and cherished spending time with his family, understanding that the moments shared with loved ones were the most precious. Described by those who knew him as creative, handy, and intelligent, Butch Rexroad left an indelible mark on the world. His ability to fix anything, his knack for storytelling, and his wisdom in times of need will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy of love, hard work, and creativity that will endure in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come.
A memorial service will be held for Darrell at Freedom Christian Fellowship, 4935 State Route 601, Norwalk, OH 44857 on Friday, July 11. Visitation at 11 am, service at 12 pm. Meal served after. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to the American Legion Post 659, Southern Care Hospice, or Freedom Ministries of Norwalk.
