Darrell William Sivertsen of Traer, IA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Unity Point Hospital in Waterloo, IA. He was 85 years old.

Darrell was born on January 26, 1940, in Traer, IA, to Vernon and Viola (Carstensen) Sivertsen. During high school, Darrell participated in wrestling and football. He graduated from Traer High School in 1959. Darrell spent most of his life living in the Traer area. He worked for AWE, Holman’s Garage and the Traer Light Plant. He also drove semi for Randolph’s Trucking and Murray Whannel Trucking. He worked at Construction Machinery Company (CMC) in Waterloo. He owned and operated Wash House #1 in Traer. He was a member of Traer Lion’s Club and a volunteer for the Traer Ambulance. He retired from John Deere as a machinist in 1999 after 24 years of employment.

Darrell married Kathy Claussen in Traer in 1990. Darrell loved everything about the outdoors. He spent many years camping, water skiing, and boating at Turtle Creek Campground in Delhi, IA, and was a member of Turtle Creek Boat Club where he was known as “King Tut”. He also enjoyed golfing, bike riding, riding motorcycles and fishing. Darrell and Kathy spent winters in Arizona after his retirement. He made many trips to Gays Mills, WI in the fall with the necessary stop at Pete’s Hamburger Stand in Prairie du Chien, WI, and enjoying the hamburger while sitting at Lock and Dam #9. The trip was especially enjoyable for him when his granddaughter and great-grandchildren joined them on the trip. His great grandchildren were his biggest joy and his face would light up when he saw them.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Cindy Sivertsen; brother DuWayne “Monk” Sivertsen; and sister Darrellene Lane.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Traer, IA; two daughters June (Jon) Kahler of Traer, IA, and Karen (Adam) Leahy of AZ; two granddaughters Kayla (Blake) Hand of Cedar Rapids, IA and Kalena Leahy of AZ; three great-grandchildren Wyatt, Chase and Addison Hand of Cedar Rapids, IA; brother Kevin (Kim) Rimrodt of VA; and many family and friends.
