Darrell M. Smith, 68, of Athens, PA, passed away at home with his family by his side on Wednesday December 10, 2025.

He was born on October 31, 1957, in Bath, NY, the son of Martin and June (Nurse) Smith.

Darrell was a Technical Support Representative in Quality Control at Masonite, retiring after 40 plus years of faithful service.

Darrell was known all over for his precision handmade custom long bows and accessories as well as his amazing long-distance accuracy. Darrell had been known to show up to a bow shoot and outshoot the folks using compound bows while using his long bow. Back in the day, Darrell even taught youth the fundamentals of shooting a long bow. Most importantly Darrell was an avid supporter of your second amendment rights. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing, and shooting pool.

He was predeceased by his father; Martin Smith.

Darrell is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years; Ann Smith, daughters; Crystal (BJ) Bailey, Valerie (Scott) Schrader, and Sam (Logan) Smith, sons; James Kautz, Jon (Molly) Kautz, Kurt (Kelsie) Smith, grandchildren; Brett, Helana, Gaije, Dori (Caleb) Brett, Adriana, Scotty, Rylee, Wes, Jaxson, Mo, Squeak, Caleb, Addy, and Bella, and great-granddaughter; Paisley. He is also survived by his mother; June Smith, sisters Vicki (Paul) Lovekamp, and Bonnie Smith, brother; John Smith, and nieces Terry and Laura.

Following Darrell's wishes, there will be no services. The family is being cared for by Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.

The family asks that anyone wishing to donate in Darrell's name to please seek your local gun shop and setup a memorial in his memory to aid any less fortunate youth wanting to hunt to help with the purchase of a bow, rifle, or shotgun
