Darrell was born September 21, 1957, in Huntsville, MO. Darrell was the son of Helyn Thorpe (Poindexter) and George "Bill" Brown. Darrell attended East High of Kansas City, MO. He graduated at the age of 16 and was honored into Rock Hurst College at the age of 16. Darrell was very smart but very much to himself. Darrell was very funny, always amusing his nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much. As they loved him. Darrell worked at Sears department store in Kansas City, MO for 10 years in retail before retiring due to health. To know Darrell is to know he loved to dress to impress, loved nice cars like his Deuce and a Quarter. Darrell's personality allowed many to gravitate to him. He loved fishing, music, dancing and being with family. Darrell moved to Moberly, MO in the late 90's to enjoy a slower paced life and country living in which he was born into.
Darrell had a close bond with a few of his nieces and nephews whom were always at grandma's house. Domico, Perry Jr, Tammy and Tara who was the baby of the crew. The family would like to send a special Thank You to Jerry Thorpe Sr for always being there for his baby brothers' needs through the years. Due to health reasons, Jerry was unable to continue so his daughter Tara, Darrell's niece, took over the responsibility. Tara took over as his care giver and every Thursday for the past 3 years was their hang out day. Loud music, laughter and grocery shopping. Fun times that were treasured and will be missed.
Darrell passed away October 23, 2025 at his home in Moberly, MO.
Darrell is survived by a large extended family including 3 sisters, Theresa (Dean) Thorpe of Kansas City, MO, La'Tanya Thorpe of San Diego, CA and Penny Thorpe of Sealy, TX; 3 brothers, Jerry Thorpe Sr of Columbia, MO, Perry Thorpe Sr of Kansas City, MO and Kelly Thorpe of Kansas City, MO. Larry Swanagan of Moberly, MO and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Darrell was preceded in death by his mother Helyn L Thorpe (Poindexter) of Huntsville, MO, his father George "Bill" Brown of Huntsville, MO, brothers Fred Poindexter of Chicago, IL, Ronald Thorpe of San Diego, CA, Rory Thorpe of Kansas City, MO, Kenneth Thorpe of San Diego, CA and Robert Thorpe of Huntsville, MO.
Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held Friday, November 7, 2025, 1-2pm at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, to be followed by funeral services honoring and celebrating Mr. Thorpe's life at 2pm. Committal prayer and burial will take place at the Huntsville City Cemetery.
