Darrell Wratten Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel - Monrovia on Mar. 14, 2026.
Darrell Eugene Wratten, 63, of Clayton, passed peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 19, 2026, due to unknown heart complications. Born on July 25, 1962, in Indianapolis, Darrell was the chosen son of his loving parents, the late Francis Riley and Marguerite B. (Horton) Wratten.

A 1981 graduate of Perry Meridian High School, Darrell worked in security for over 18 years, where his observant and protective nature served him well. Darrell's life was defined by a quiet, steady devotion to the people and animals he loved.

United in marriage with Shannon (Ashley) on November 6th, the two met during their school years and were blessed to share a lifetime of memories and 25 anniversaries. Two peas in a pod and a package deal, Darrell looked forward running their regular errands at Walmart and he truly cherished their routine and their deep connection.

A man of many talents, Darrell was known for his creativity and generosity. Some of his hobbies included fishing and drawing house plans. In the kitchen, he was a gifted baker, and in the yard, he was a dedicated gardener. He was most happy when sharing the "fruits of his labor," frequently delivering homemade treats and fresh garden harvests to loved ones during the holidays and throughout the year.

Darrell's heart was perhaps most evident in his love for animals. A true friend to "fur babies," he rescued many and was a self-admitted "foster fail" on several occasions, unable to part with the animals he and Shannon took into their care. When he wasn't tending to his pets or his garden, Darrell could be found working in the flower beds or mowing the yard. He will be remembered as a sweet, funny, and deeply considerate man who would truly do anything for anyone.

Joining his parents and a host of beloved fur babies in heaven, survivors include his wife, Shannon (Ashley) Wratten; siblings, Terry, Mark, and Elaine; and several extended family members and friends.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be hosted by the family at a later date. In honor of Darrell's profound love for animals, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to a local animal rescue of your choice.
