Darren Erik Mantyla, age 40, passed away at home on July 26, 2025, in Grosse Pointe Woods. He was born in Detroit on August 13, 1984.
Darren attended Grosse Pointe South High School where he was a captain of the varsity swim team, member of the National Honor Society, and played his trumpet in the band, jazz band, and orchestra. At Albion College, he majored in music and minored in chemistry. Darren also played in the college band, swam and graduated cum laude. He went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania Dental School.
He loved competitive sports, playing his trumpet, and being with friends. He also enjoyed travel and outdoor activities. Darren will be remembered as a caring, compassionate, fun-loving person with a great sense of humor.
He is predeceased by his father Karl Mantyla and is survived by his mother Melanie Nowc, brothers K. Timothy Mantyla, Christopher Mantyla, Peter (Tami) Mantyla, and sister Drs. Andrea (James) Mertz,
A memorial service is planned for a later date. In his memory, donations may be made to “On the Rise Bakery” - 1780 Mt. Elliot St., Detroit, MI 48207.
