Robert Mantyla Obituary

Robert George Mantyla

1938~2022

Robert George Mantyla, 83, passed away April 13, 2022 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Robert was born December 27, 1938 to Walfred and Ellen Mantyla. He graduated from Granite High School and then attended the University of Utah where he graduated with a Ph.D.

Bob married his beloved Sharon May Johnson December 29, 1977 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He loved and supported her in every way possible.

Bob started working in Rock Springs, WY for Mountain Fuel and then moved here and worked as it changed to Questar Corp., retiring in 1998.

Bob loved boating, fishing, golfing, helping others, keeping a nice yard, and gardening. He enjoyed watching CNN, the Utah Jazz, golf, tennis, bicycle races, and car races on TV. He followed the University of Utah football, basketball and Red Rocks gymnastics.

Bob lived a full, happy life until bladder cancer appeared last year. He battled leukemia for 14 years, but couldn't fight this tumor. We had hospice help from CNS his last 3 days. They were a huge help!

Bob is survived by his wife Sharon; his fur-babies Darby (Sheltie dog) and KatyKat (cat); his siblings Vivian O'Brien, Eileen Rich, and Charles Mantyla as well as many extended family and friends.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents Walfred E. Mantyla and Ellen Eliza Anderson Mantyla; his siblings Lillian Andrew, Walfred O. Mantyla; his grandparents Oscar and Wilhilmina Vertonen Mantyla and Charles and Serafia Hilli Anderson.

Bob does not want a funeral service. He will be cremated and interred in the Rose Garden at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Utah Food Bank. Remember to hug and tease your loved ones!
