Darris Smuin

Darris Kent Smuin passed away on October 25th, 2022, at home surrounded by loved ones.
Darris was born October 23, 1939 to Hyrum and Idella Smuin of Vernal, UT and was the youngest of their 10 children. On January 20th, 1961, he married the love of his life, Billie Yvonne Draper and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 20th, 1965. They welcomed their first child and only son, Kent D on June 12th, 1963. They welcomed their baby girl, Kathy Ann on March 13th, 1967.
Darris dedicated many years of his life as a hard-working man. He worked many years from a young age at Uintah Pack before heading to work at the local gilsonite mines. He eventually opened Phillips 66 in Vernal and worked over 20 years there before retiring.
Darris lived an adventurous life roaming the mountains from the forest bottoms to the mountain tops. He loved camping, hunting, gardening, cutting firewood and many other activities that involved family and friends. He never missed an opportunity to take a motorcycle ride with the love of his life. Eventually he and Billie started traveling south for the winter and enjoyed spending time with their friends.
Darris is preceded in death by his parents, Hyrum and Idella Smuin, as well as his siblings; Wilma, Erma, Venis, Enid, Wayne, Wendell, Lela, Larry and Nayon.
Darris is survived by his wife, Billie; his children Kent (Codie) Smuin, Kathy (Brian) Kellogg; grandchildren Tausha Snow (Bj Troendle), Candace (Gregg) Harbison, Chelsie (Jake) Perez, Trevor Kellogg, Stephen McKee (Izzy Cook), Shae (Jason) Bristol and Rhandi (Sam) Rendon as well as 14 great grandchildren and 6 bonus great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Darris will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11 AM at the Uintah Ward Chapel (3990 South 1500 East). Viewings will be held Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and Saturday 1 hour prior to service. Interment will be in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
