WEST GARDINER - Darryl G. Brown Sr., 82, of West Gardiner, Maine, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on March 29, 1942, in Gardiner, he was the son of Glenn and Marjorie Brown.
Darryl graduated from Gardiner High School in 1960 and enlisted in the Marine Corps shortly after. In 1962, he met the love of his life, Norma, and they married on December 22, 1962. Together, they had two children: Darlyne and Darryl Jr.
A passionate enthusiast of classic and antique automobiles, Darryl served as president of the Maine Obsolete Auto League for several years. He retired from Associated Grocers in 1990 and purchased Brown's Exit 27 Salvage in 1986, dedicating himself to the business until his passing.
Darryl was known for his strong work ethic, and love of collecting memorabilia. He enjoyed traveling across the state in search of treasures. Darryl adventured to many places however his favorite memories were always with Norma.
Darryl and Norma enjoyed cruise nights and were often the first ones on the dance floor. Anyone lucky enough to see them dance was impressed by their rendition of the Jitterbug. If Darryl wasn't at the yard, you would be sure to find him with Norma. They were truly soulmates with a once in a lifetime love.
