Darryl was the only daughter born from the marriage of Andrew and Laura Hooker Harris. Her parents were assisted in raising her with her grandparents, Charlie and Eva Harris. This was a very large family of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins who preceded Darryl in death.
Darryl joined and was baptized at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Mineral, Va. as a young child. She sing in the choir served on the Usher Board and the kitchen ministry. later she joined First Baptist Church, South Richmond. After many years she rededicated herself to her first love, at Ebenezer in Mineral.
She married Irvin Holt and from this marriage was born one son Jared Irvin Holt. After her marriage she became very active with the NAACP of Louisa County.
Darryl was a faithful worker for the Democratic Party of Virginia. Working with the first Black Governor of Virginia, L. Douglas Wilder, Mark Warner, Governor Tim Kaine, Governor McAuliffe and Governor Northam and several other positions until a few months before her death and retired from that organization.
Darryl also worked at Louisa Manufacturing Co., Vepco, Louisa Courthouse, Capital One of Richmond, then UFLCIO where she made many friends.
Darryl leaves to remember her love, her son, Jared and his daughter, Jordyn; her brother, Darwin and his daughters, Brittany and Lauren and nephew little Nico/us. She has many, many close cousins, relatives and close friends. She also leaves her Best Friend and prayer partner, Peggy Gatewood, better known to her as (Doc).
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at noon in the Sun Chapel at D.D. Watson Mortician, Inc. 117 West Street, Louisa, VA. There will be no public viewing.
