Darryl Pate Hubbard, 81, of
Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on December 31, 2025. Born on January 20, 1944, in
Lebanon, Tennessee, Darryl was a longtime member of the Mountain Creek, East Brainerd, and Clear Creek Churches of Christ. He was active in the intercity bus ministry and was well known for his love of the outdoors, gardening, and the many dogs and cats he cared for throughout his life. He felt most at home working and spending time on the land and took great pride in cultivating gardens, flowers, vegetables, and summer fruits wherever he lived.
Darryl spent more than twenty years with Volunteer/Chubb Life, earning multiple Presidents Club awards and traveling the world with his family. He was also an active member and leader at the AIM Center, where he supported individuals transitioning back into the workforce. His deep appreciation for nature led him to serve proudly as a park ranger for the City of Chattanooga. Many will remember him as a storyteller in Coolidge Park, often found sharing tales near the carousel.
He had a special fondness for the older generation and the eras they represented, enjoying time spent antiquing, visiting garage sales and flea markets, and reminiscing about simpler days.
Darryl found his greatest peace in the mountains and forests of Tennessee and North Carolina. No matter the season or the weather, he thrived outdoors whether in a canoe, a tent, a trail shelter, or deep in the wilderness. His adventures occasionally appeared in local publications, much to his surprise. He was endlessly fascinated by extreme weather and often placed himself right in the midst of thunderstorms, snow, ice, and even tornado conditions. He understood both the chaos and the beauty of nature and was continually drawn to it.
Darryl was quick with a sympathetic word, a lighthearted joke, or a helping hand. He carried a gentle spirit and loved his family in the best way he knew.
We want to offer our heartfelt thanks for the role Martin Boyd Christian Home played in his life. Their team was incredibly patient, helpful, and kind, providing life extending care that went far beyond our expectations. The Level 2 staff treated him like family, and in many ways, they became his day to day family unit and support.
Darryl is survived by Lynn Hubbard; daughter, Cindy (Jeff); son, Greg (Marty); grandchildren: Luke (Rebekah), Emory, Ethan, and Cambelle Hubbard; and great-grandchildren, Esther and Micah; his brother, Terry (Sandy); and sister, Julia. He was predeceased by his parents, Rachel and Joe Rachael (Mary); and brother, Johnny.
A memorial gathering will be held on February 14th at 12 p.m. (central) in
Lebanon, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the McKamey Animal Shelter Honorarium & Memorial Donation Fund.
