In Loving Memory of Darryl Spencer Mallory
February 1, 1958 – September 25, 2025
Darryl Spencer Mallory, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on February 1, 1958, in Richland, New Jersey, Darryl was the son of Rufus Mayes Jr. and birth mother Bertha Mae Mallory. He was lovingly raised by his devoted mother, Katherine Mayes, who nurtured his quiet strength and steady spirit.
Darryl spent his early years in Vineland, New Jersey, where he attended local schools and developed a lifelong love for chess, quickly becoming a skilled and passionate player by the time he reached middle school. His enthusiasm for physical activity was unmatched, often attending gym class multiple times a day and regularly enjoying pick-up basketball games at the park. He loved music and also had a talent for shooting pool, showing a competitive edge softened by his easy-going nature.
Following high school, Darryl proudly served in the United States Navy for over 14 years as an Aviation Ordnanceman and Air Crew member. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, responsibility, and honor. After completing his service, he held several positions, but it was during his tenure at Sentara Northern Virginia Hospital in the Material Management Department that he found special fulfillment. His coworkers admired him for his reliability, positive attitude, and unwavering commitment to making sure departments had the supplies needed to provide safe and efficient patient care.
A faithful member of Harvest Life Church, Darryl served humbly as a driver for the Shuttle Service Ministry. He was quiet and reserved, but those who knew him well appreciated his dry wit, deep compassion, and steady presence.
Darryl had a wide array of hobbies that brought him joy: grilling for friends and family, reading news articles, completing Sudoku puzzles, and traveling extensively both across the United States and abroad. A proud and loyal fan of all Philadelphia sports-especially the Eagles-he could often be found watching games in his favorite Eagles socks.
Preceded in death by parents and his sisters Deborah Mayes and Lisa Still, Darryl leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Christine Mallory; three children: Darryl Durham, Christian, and Taylor; his brother David Boozer Sr. (Carolyn); four sisters: Leslie Campbell (Robert), Tracey Mitchell, Kim Brown, and Celeste "Judy" Mallory; his dear aunt Mary Lively; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss his calming presence, warm heart, and unwavering love.
Darryl Spencer Mallory's life was one of quiet service, faith, and deep devotion to his family, community, and country. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered.
