Darryl Edward Sharpe, 58, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at his home in Waynesville, NC.
Darryl is preceded in death by his mother, Linda Chambers Wright, father, Clarence Edward Sharpe, life-long partner, Karon Jones, and sister, Deborah Ann Dyer.
He is survived by his children; Brad Jones, Missy Lance Odom, Loyal Lance, and Tiffany Bussler Sharpe, all of Canton; an Aunt Katherine Rathbone (Kenneth) of Clyde, Brothers Hillard Duane Sharpe (Karla) of Waynesville and Dennis Gillette of Bethel; his nephew Dylan Dyer (Allie) of Cruso; grandchildren Darian, Montana, Savannah, Aubree, Randy Lee, Charity, Smoke, Shea, Bradlee, Shooter, Cater, Payton, Gabriel, Samey, Kota, Addy, Jaden, McKinley, Sabrina, Adein, Martin, and Austin, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, beloved cousins, and friends.
Darryl loved the outlaw life and was a passionate outdoorsman who loved spending his time in the mountains trapping and hunting, when he wasn't caring for his hens and harvesting their eggs. He loved a good sharp knife, a good fishing pole, collecting unique hats, and he couldn't decide if a C or G harmonica sounded best when he played in the evenings. From woodcarving to metal-welding, Darryl could create almost anything. He enjoyed roughing-it through the woods looking out for signs of game and wildlife, digging ginseng in-season, and would camp and fish all year long if he could. He was an experienced fisherman and loved fishing obscure spots, sometimes hiking overnight. Most of all, Darryl enjoyed spending his time with his friends and family by a campfire while having a beer, sharing good country food, and telling a tall tale that often turned out to be true. He valued spending time with his grandchildren, especially Smoke. Darryl didn't know a stranger. He turned no one away who needed food or a place to lay their head for the night. Whoever Darryl helped became his friend and his friends became part of his family. Darryl was loved by many, and he will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
The family would like to thank everyone who spent time with Darryl and supported Tiffany at his home over the past 5 weeks. Your friendship and compassion will not be forgotten.
Darryl wished everyone to remember him as he was before he became ill. He will be laid to rest near his mother and Karen at Riverside Cemetery in Bethel.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends at Sunburst will be held at or near Sunburst campground between 3-5 pm on Nov 16.
