Darryl G. Terry, also known as DT, was born on October 10, 1965, to the union of the late Jimmie Terry and Dorothy Odem (Brown) in Milwaukee, WI. He was the youngest of three children.
He received his formal education at Siloah Lutheran School in Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) and Milwaukee Technical High School in Milwaukee Public Schools and graduated from Milwaukee Trade & Technical High School in 1983. He attended college at North Dakota State University on a basketball scholarship, where he majored in Electrical Engineering. He came back to Milwaukee and attended Milwaukee School of Engineering and University of Phoenix.
Growing up, Darryl loved to play sports. He spent countless hours riding his bike around Milwaukee County Parks playing sports. He was a great baseball player and played on the Beckum Stapleton Little League for coaches Johnson and Beene. Later, he discovered his gift for playing basketball. He was an all-star basketball player and throughout his life was often referred to as a "legend" because of his winning records while playing in the Warning Basketball League for the Atkinson Triangle, and at local parks, and for helping lead his high school to win the WIAA Wisconsin State High School Boys Basketball Championship. He enjoyed watching sports too, including the Green Bay Packers and his favorite college basketball team, the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Darryl's other passion in life was music. He played several instruments including the Saxophone, and his favorite guitar bass. He founded his own contemporary jazz band called, Another Level Band (ALB). He and his band members often performed at various venues across the country.
Darryl was known as a leader. In 1985, in Milwaukee, WI, he was one of seven Honorable Founding Fathers that established the Black Greek fraternity Delta Psi Chi Fraternity, Inc., a fraternity dedicated to brotherhood. Today it has grown to over 10 chapters at American colleges and Universities and has several hundreds of members.
He was employed at We Energies for over 34 years, until his health declined. He was a dedicated worker and took pride in his job. He enjoyed his co-workers and look forward to wings nights with his work group.
Darryl was a great role model to many and left an incredible impression on everyone he encountered. As his friends say, "We lost a great one!"
Darryl departed this life peacefully on Monday, June 5th, 2023, with his devoted wife by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Odem (Brown) and Jimmie Terry.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Angelena Terry; daughter, Danyelle Terry, Atlanta, GA; stepchildren; step-granddaughter; brothers, aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 12:15 PM with service to follow at 12:30 PM. Burial will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
