Daryl Walter Wyttenbach

It is with great sadness we announce that on June 24th, 2025,
Daryl Walter Wyttenbach died peacefully in his sleep after a long illness at the age of 96. We can rejoice he is now with our Lord and Savior in Heaven!
Daryl was born on a farm near Mantorville, Minnesota on March 3, 1929, to Walter & Alvera Wyttenbach, the 5th of 6 children. He grew up on the home farm with the rest of his family. During World War II, his older siblings all left to help in the war effort, leaving him, his father, mother and younger brother to work the farm. Unfortunately, his father died from a heart ailment in July 1945 at age 47. Daryl became the man of the house at 16! He graduated from high school in 1946 about the same time as his older brother Bud came back from serving as a Marine in the Pacific. Together they worked the farm until mid-1947 when Daryl enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in multiple locations, including Okinawa during the Korean War, as an aircraft mechanic. In 1952, he met his future wife, Belva, on a blind double date with his brother Bud and his wife Marilyn, who also happened to be Belva's cousin. Daryl and Belva were married on July 25th, 1953, in Rochester, MN. They were stationed at Whiteman AFB, Missouri when their first two children, Brian (1956) and Keith (1961), were born. In 1963, they were at Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, Arizona, where their third child, Blake, was born. They made their final move to Dover AFB, Delaware in Jan. 1966 and have lived in the area ever since. Daryl was an aircraft mechanic on B-29s and B-47s until moving to Delaware where he became a flight engineer on C-124s, C-133s and then C-5s. He retired from the Air Force after 26 years and then worked in the jet engine shop at Dover AFB until he retired from government service in 1992.
Daryl was a kind, generous, and loving man. He was a true role model to multiple generations of his family, as well as many fellow service members and co-workers. He will certainly be missed and yet we acknowledge the blessing of his long life.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 69 years, Belva, his parents Walter & Alvera Wyttenbach, his sisters Dorothy (Robert), Phyllis (Ralph), Evelyn (Wayne), his brothers Warren (Marilyn), and James (Debbie).
He is survived by his son Brian Wyttenbach (Diane, Brian Jr., Andrew), his son Keith Wyttenbach (Laura, Chrissy, Brandon, Grace, Parker) and his son Blake Wyttenbach (Marcia, Scott, Hayden). Also, great-grandkids-Cory Wyttenbach, Kayla Washington, Isaiah Washington, Jalen Burton, Amaiya Burton, and Aiden Burton and great-great granddaughter, Araceley Washington.

The viewing and service will be at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 East Lebanon Road, on July 22nd, 2025, at 1:00 and 2:00 service at 2.
Burial with military honors will be held 11AM Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
