Virgil A. Wyttenbach, age 92 of Argyle, WI passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, at New Glarus Home in New Glarus, WI. He was born in rural Argyle in Adams Township Green County at his grandparent's farm (Edwin & Ida Moen) to his parents Alfred and Inez (Moen) Wyttenbach. He grew up in Postville attending school in Postville and Farmers Grove, later graduating from New Glarus High School. He farmed with his family until his father died in 1949. After that, Virgil enlisted in the United States Army in 1950 and served until being honorably discharged in 1953.
Virgil married Peggy Foesch on February 4, 1954. He farmed for a while then worked for Crandall Tire in Monroe, WI until going to work at Moore Business Forms where he worked until he retired in 1994.
Virgil was a lifelong member of Adams Lutheran Church in rural Argyle, WI and was a past member of the Black Hawk Saddle Club and Argyle Rod & Gun Club. When he wasn't working he enjoyed hunting locally and out West, and going fishing for many years.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 70 years; Peggy; his children: Linda (Rudy) Gebhardt, Julie Wyttenbach, Mark Wyttenbach & Kathy Wyttenbach; four grandchildren: Colleen (Todd) Rear, Tracy (Joshua) Towne, Keith Gebhardt, and Dustin Grass; seven great-grandchildren: Rachel Ferree, Jeff (Vanessa) Rosebrook, Matthew (Taylor) Rosebrook, Colin (Emily Wardlow) Rear, Emma Towne, Ethan Towne, and Andrew Towne; seven great-great-grandchildren: Preston, Zander and Grayson Rosebrook, Seanix Ferree, Quinley, and Nova Rosebrook, and Scarlet Rear; his siblings: Luther Wyttenbach, Jerry (Sharon) Wyttenbach, Joey (Art) Gilbertson, and Judy (Randy) Paulson; and dozens and dozens of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Alfred in 1949; his mother Inez 2007; one daughter: Diane (Jeff) Weaver in 2013; one son: Brian Wyttenbach in 1983; and three brothers: Frank, Donald, and Richard Wyttenbach.
A Celebration of Virgil's Life will be held at Adam's Lutheran Church at a later date. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
For those who prefer, a memorial fund has been established in Virgil's name.
