Dauro Baccoli Obituary

Dauro Baccoli, 97, of Pittsfield, died Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on August 3, 1927, son of Angelo and Argia Migliorini Baccoli, he attended Pittsfield schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. He later graduated from the Police Officers Training School in Framingham, and was later the first local officer to attend the federally supported Command Training Institute.

Mr. Baccoli served with the United States Navy during World War II.

In 1952, Mayor Robert T. Capeless appointed Mr. Baccoli to the Pittsfield Police Department, and was promoted to the rank of Detective by Police Chief Thomas H. Calnan in 1959. In 1966, Detective Baccoli was promoted to Lieutenant; and just four months later, was promoted by Mayor Remo DelGallo to the rank of Captain, heading up the Uniformed Division for 18 years. Capt. Baccoli retired in July 1984 with a total of 32 years of dedicated service.

Following his retirement, Mr. & Mrs. Baccoli took a cross-country trip and enjoyed wintering in Florida. He loved to garden, especially tending to his numerous tomato plants, and working around his home.

Mr. Baccoli's wife of 68 years, the former Lois Nagelschmidt, whom he married in May 20, 1950, died February 27, 2019.

He is survived by two sons, Steven E Baccoli of Lanesborough, and Larry S. Baccoli of Bethel, Conn., and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Louis Baccoli, Mario Baccoli, and Michael Baccoli, and

by two sisters, Isolina Barnini, and Elena Sweet.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Dauro Baccoli will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME with Pittsfield Police Department Chaplain J.D. Hebert officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
