David C. Adamian

David Christopher Adamian, age 58, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, died October 20, 2024. Beloved husband of Lynne Carvalho Adamian, father of Nathaniel Adamian, Louis Adamian, and Eleanor Adamian, brother of Stephen Adamian and his partner Claudia Borgonovo, Jean Adamian, John Adamian and his wife Jenny Pyke, Monica Adamian and her husband David Stowe, Brother-in-law of Bruce Carvalho and his wife Regina Cosnowsky, and Uncle to Jennifer Adamian James, Gabriel Adamian, Clara Adamian and her husband John Miller, Maia Carvalho, Michael-Russell Adamian Salmi and his fiancee Bailey McFee, Daniel Carvalho, Corrina Stowe, Bernadette Adamian, Lucia Stowe, and Keith Adamian. ALS takes him far too soon.
David was born in Poughkeepsie, New York in December of 1965 and grew up in Red Hook, New York surrounded by a close and large extended family. His father's job at IBM relocated the family to Charlotte, North Carolina when he was thirteen. There, he met many lifelong friends before returning north for college. During David's time at Hampshire College, his father was temporarily relocated to Tokyo, Japan, at which time he paused his schooling to live in Tokyo and travel the country, studying the language, teaching English and gaining an appreciation for travel and Japanese culture, including Sumo wrestling and Aikido.
David relished his role as husband, father, brother, son and uncle, regularly making time for family vacations and evening and weekend activities. From chess tournaments to building soap box cars and participating in adaptive skiing, he was an enthusiastic champion of his children through their many pursuits. He was known as a repository of birthdays and more obscure dates, the first person anyone would ask "when did that happen?" He was also known for his competitive streak, whether in family card games or in fencing, a sport he practiced with both of his sons starting in 2015, and continued until this past year, joining a close and supportive community at Olympia Fencing Center.
David cared for the world in many ways and showed that particularly through his work. In 2009, he co-founded GreenerU, a company dedicated to assisting colleges and universities in improving campus sustainability. He became the company's CEO in 2015 and was a leader and mentor to his employees through the COVID-19 pandemic and until his retirement in 2022. His work at GreenerU saved tens of millions of tons of greenhouse gasses from entering the atmosphere.
David was a lifelong lover of music, traveling far and wide with friends and family for anything ranging from the Grateful Dead to Sun Ra. He saw music as something to be shared, always seeking a point of common taste and looking to expand his own horizons.
He will be missed dearly by the many people he touched in his rich, too-short life. A service will be held on Sunday November, 3rd at 1pm in Story Chapel at Mount Auburn Cemetery 580 Mount Auburn St. Cambridge, MA 02138.
