David M. Akers, 74, was born in Taylorville, IL to Harold and Verdene Akers. He married his high school sweetheart, Georgeann (Marsaglia) Akers in 1965. In 1968 he graduated from Southern Illinois University and two years later he and his growing family moved to Evansville, where he retired as President of Empire Contractors in 1998. He was past-President of the Board of Directors for the Evansville Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center and served on several Labor Boards.
David was a lifelong Cardinals fan, an avid golfer and member of the Evansville Country Club for over 40 years. He had a total of five holes-in-one, three that were witnessed by his grandchildren, with whom he shared his love of the game. He patiently coached his grandchildren as soon as they could hold a putter and they will forever approach the ball hearing Papa say, "Keep your head down." The hard part now will be to learn to keep their heads up without him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Cheri Stratman (Joe), Lauri Egli (Craig), and Rachel Akers (Diane Knueven) and three grandchildren, Kane Stratman, Anna Hallmann (Vincent), and Sean Egli. He was a loving husband, proud father, and doting grandfather who will forever be missed.

There will be no services. Arrangements are being handled by Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, 626 N. First Avenue, Evansville, IN 47710.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center of Evansville, Attn: Online Giving Coordinator, 3701 Bellemeade Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 or the Boys and Girls Club of Evansville, P.O. Box 6311, Evansville, IN 47719.
