David Dodson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Browning Funeral Home - Evansville on Feb. 9, 2026.
David Darrell Dodson, 68, of Evansville, went to be with the Lord his Savior on February 7, 2026. He was affectionately called Grandpa by many including his 14 grandchildren.

David was born in Atlantic, Iowa to parents Pastor D. Duane and Noma Dodson on December 22, 1957. He came to know the Lord as his personal Savior as a young boy. As a child, David was greatly impacted by his parents' ministry. He would often go calling with his father to minister to others and enjoyed fellowshipping with visitors in their family home. These experiences greatly shaped the man he became. David never knew a stranger! His greatest joy in life was interacting with people. He loved his family fiercely and valued every relationship he had with his church family, co-workers, neighbors, and friends. David's greatest desire was that each one of us would accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior too.

David graduated from F.J. Reitz High School in 1976 where he enjoyed wrestling and met the love of his life, Janna Rippy. Dave and Janna were married on December 16, 1978 and had 7 children and 14 grandchildren together. They just celebrated their 47th anniversary. David began working at Mead Johnson Nutrition right out of high school and retired from Bristol Myers Squibb in 2012. He was an active member of University Heights Baptist Church where he enjoyed ministering to the college students from USI.

He is preceded in death by his parents, D. Duane and Noma Dodson and his sister, Sheryl Andrecht.

He is survived by his wife Janna Dodson; daughters Kristina (Scott) Duncan, Shannon (Joshua) Hazelwood, Kimberly (Joshua) Bolin, Stacey (Seth) Montank, and Lena Dodson; sons Darrell (Katrina) Dodson and Pyotr Dodson; grandchildren Kaden (Kloe) Bolin, Klair Bolin, Jaelyn Montank, Kylie Montank, Tessa Dodson, Wilsyn Duncan, Emma Hazelwood, Madison Montank, Nelsun Duncan, Duane Dodson, Layla Hazelwood, Braleigh Montank, Isaac Dodson, and Paxton Duncan; brothers Norman (Joyce) Dodson and Norris (Sue) Dodson; brother-in-law Richard Andrecht; and sister-in-law Diane Dodson.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 12, 2026 with visitation beforehand at 10:00 AM, at University Heights Baptist Church, 8800 Middle Mount Vernon Rd, Evansville, IN, officiated by Pastor Kyle Wishert, with burial to follow at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may visit Wednesday, February 11, 2026 from 1:00 to 7:00 PM at University Heights Baptist Church.

David was passionate about spreading God's Word to people both at home and on the mission field. Memorial contributions may be made to University Heights Baptist Church in support of this mission.

David was & will always be my brother, best friend, compadre, & sidekick ! I will miss him everyday of the rest of my life ! I will always remember his generosity, kindness, helpfulness, & desire to pay it forward in life for all the blessings God brought into his life ! We talked everyday multiple times & bounced thoughts off each other as to how to deal with any given situation that came our way ! We both were brothers in Christ & never missed a chance to share with others ! Imiss my friend but i will see him again , JUST NOT YET ! Rest in peace & Gods love!
You are no longer here but you will never be forgotten nor all the blessings you poured out on others !
Its not so important how long you live as it is how many people are glad to have the pleasure of knowing you !

Dave you're a great guy and neighbor, you were always helping the neighborhood out clearing snow, checking in on my dad when he got home from the hospital. Loved by so many people. I'm going to miss seeing you and talking with you. Thoughts and prayers to your family, see you again my friend.
