David Bacle Obituary

David Bacle

March 4, 1948 - September 29, 2024

Columbus, Georgia - David Lawrence Bacle, known affectionately as David to his friends and family, left this world on September 29, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on March 4, 1948, in Fort Benning, Georgia, David's journey came full circle as he passed away peacefully in Columbus, Georgia, surrounded by the love of his family.

David's life was marked by his unwavering passion and generous spirit. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Judith Ann "Judy "Bacle", and a cherished brother to Cecilia Vallerie Hart, Thomas Gerald Bacle, Sandy Ray Bacle, and Sandra Kay Kelley. David's warmth and kindness extended not only to his human family but also to his loyal canine companion, "Buddy," who was a constant source of joy and companionship. His legacy also lives on through the many lives he touched, including his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The son of the late Cecil Mosely and Mildred Sarah Bacle, David was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Lindsey Bacle, and his siblings, Robert Thomas Bacle, Robert James Bacle, Nathan Clay Bacle, Leonard Willis Bacle, and Larry Wayne Bacle.

David's dedication to his country was evident in his 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, from which he retired with honors. His commitment to excellence continued in his second career with Airborne Express, where he served as flight engineer and chief flight engineer for 16 years before retiring. Even in retirement, David's desire to serve others remained strong; he volunteered at local hospitals, delivering medicines and floral arrangements to those in need, brightening the days of countless individuals with his presence.

David's entrepreneurial spirit shone through in his heavy equipment excavating service. He also maintained hunting grounds for the comedian Jeff Foxworthy for a time, combining his love for the outdoors with his professional skills. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, David found solace and joy in nature, whether he was hunting, engaging in outdoor activities, or simply enjoying a meal in the beauty of the natural world.

Woodworking was another of David's passions, allowing him to express his analytical mind and keen attention to detail. The pieces he created were not only beautiful but also imbued with the love and care he put into every project. David's creations will serve as enduring reminders of his talent and generosity.

A memorial service with full military honors will be Friday, October 4, 2024, at 2:00 pm Est at Colonial Funeral Home, 613 14th Street Phenix City, AL 36867.

David was a good man and a good friend and we too share in his families grief. David had a generous and caring heart, and it is ironic that heart issues led to his demise! Coming from a small rural community, David was privileged to enjoy worldwide experiences and cultures through his time as air crew in the USAF. He was proud to serve his country and his experiences and exposure to the world helped influence his attitude towards daily life. David could be stubborn, but he stood by his principles, for that was the man he was. His philosophy was simple, "live and let live" and respect the choices of others. We shall miss his good company, his presence and our weekly get-togethers and may he be blessed in the afterlife.
