David Ian Barrett, 63, of Senoia, GA, passed away peacefully in his wife's arms on November 30, 2024.
David was born January 22, 1961, in Manhattan, NY to Martin and Elizabeth (Rutherford) Barrett. He grew up with his parents and three brothers in Kinnelon, NJ. He went on to join the electrical union in Manhattan, NYC and started his own company specializing in low voltage installations of fire and security systems. He owned and operated Barrett's Low Voltage Service for almost 30 years with his main account being Publix Super Markets.
David left New Jersey and moved to Tampa, Florida in the late 80s when he was in his 20s. He moved to Georgia in 1997 where he settled in and lived the rest of his life. In 2009, he went to dinner with friends after church and met a woman named Jennifer, that he was smitten with. The two started dating soon after and were wed in 2012. David was a Christian man and a devoted husband to Jennifer. David liked to share with people how he and Jenn both lived in NJ and moved to GA the same year, but never met until 2009. It was a love that was meant to be! The couple were blessed to share so many adventures together.
David grew up playing competitive hockey in the US and Canada and played up until he was injured as a young adult. He continued playing in leagues until the last several years, because he enjoyed it so much. He was also an excellent skier and excelled at most sports. David loved spending time on the water and deep-sea fishing became his passion in this last decade. He spent many hours fishing in the gulf with his friends and the love of his life, his wife Jennifer. Deep-sea fishing was a hobby they enjoyed together, and they made many wonderful memories for her to cherish. David also loved music, especially the 70s genre and The Grateful Dead and he enjoyed attending live concerts with Jennifer.
David was preceded in death by his father: Martin Barrett; he is survived by his wife: Jennifer Barrett; his mother: Elizabeth Barrett; his daughters: Erika Staggs (husband: Cameron) and Bridget Barrett; his stepchildren: Samantha Galaviz (husband: Schyler) of Pennsylvania, and Jesse Amtmann of Georgia; his grandson: Isaac Amtmann; his brother: Colin Barrett; and his golden retriever: Hank the Tank.
A memorial service for David will be planned for the Spring and his family will sprinkle his ashes in the gulf, where he loved to be most of all.
Messages of condolence may be left at www.GeorgiaCremation.com. The Barrett family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation, 1086 Highway 54 West, Fayetteville.
