David Louis Basler, age 72, of Farmington, passed peacefully on January 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. David was born on February 19, 1953, in Bismarck, Missouri, to Violet and Benjamin Basler. He was raised with strong values of hard work, honesty and independence – qualities that shaped the man he became and were evident throughout his life.
On December 23, 1971, David married the love of his life, Cyndi. Together they built a beautiful life rooted in devotion, family and shared memories. This past year, they celebrated 54 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and partnership.
David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He found his greatest joy in time spent with family and close friends. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing and especially treasured time at his family farm in Coffman, Missouri – a place that brought him peace and happiness.
Known for his no-nonsense approach to life, David was a man of integrity and determination. He was a successful business owner, farmer and land developer throughout his life, leaving a lasting mark on the St. Francois and Madison County areas. His ventures included Bozlees Convenience Stores and Cheers Restaurant in Fredericktown and Farmington. David was respected for his strong work ethic.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Violet and Benjamin Basler, and his brother, Carsten Basler.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cyndi Basler; his siblings, Francis Basler, Mary Stewart, and Anthony Basler; his sons, Michael Basler (Christina), Steven Basler (Julie), and Jeffrey Basler (Lauren); and his cherished grandchildren, Grace, Sophia, Hannah, Avery, Keegan, Kinley and Kyla. He will be remembered as a steady presence, a provider, and a man who loved his family deeply.
In keeping with David’s wishes, there will be no funeral service or visitation. David preferred a simple and private farewell. He will be cremated at Cozean Memorial Chapel, and a celebration of life will be held later in the year, where family and friends can gather to share stories, laughter and memories in honor of the man he was.
