David A. Benner, 75 of Newark passed away January 7, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

David was born February 8, 1950 in Newark to the late Calvin and Marion (Daugherty) Benner. A graduate of Licking Valley High School, Mr. Benner retired from Kaiser Aluminum.

A devoted family man, David was a Cleveland Browns fan and he enjoyed time spent at the summer home on the Muskingum River. He was an avid boater and fisherman.

David was married to his sweetheart, Phyllis J. (Deckard) Benner for 57 years. She preceded him in death March 21, 2025.

Survivors include his daughters, Melissa (Jim White) Poulton of Thornville, Jennifer (Chad) Cooperrider of Newark; grandchildren, Cory Cooperrider, Katie Cooperrider, Jordan Poulton, Chance White; and sisters, Peggy Benner and Judy Young.

In addition to his parents and wife, David was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Benner.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, January 12 and Tuesday, January 13 at Vensil & Chute | Newark, 1850 W. Main Street.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Meals on Wheels program operated by the Licking County Aging Partners.

Extending my deepest sympathy to the Benner family. I graduated with Dave. Licking Valley Class of 1968. I remember Dave as a very kind and caring friend our senior year. May his children, Grandchildren find peace and their hearts heart as they remember the happy times spent with Dave.
