David Gregory Bernier

David Bernier, a treasured husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend, transitioned peacefully at home on the golden summer evening of July 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 21, 1943, David was the only son among eight children of the late Paul Bernier and Mary Rita Murphy and is survived by his sisters Mary Reimold, Sue Packer, Janet (Bob) Trainor, Kathy (Jim) Golden, Jeanne (Terry) Shaw, Pam (Nick) Veremis, and Patricia Coven as well as a multitude of in-laws, co-grandparents, nieces, nephews, and cousins. David was predeceased by his grandson Miles Courtright, nephew Matthew MacPhail, and beloved brothers-in-law; Ron Reimold, Dr. James Packer, Tony Smith, and Greg Kreh.

On March 17, 1990, David married his loving wife of 35 years, Tammy Duperon. His journey as a loving father began with his former wife Marilyn Gust Otten, with the joyful arrival of Joshua (Hayley) Bernier, Justin (Alison) Bernier, Kathryn (Todd) Curling, and then with Tammy; Sarah (Peter) Courtright. David leaves us as a much-loved "Gramps" to Grace, Ella, Claire, Ryan, Charlie, Olivia, Penelope, Sophia, Solomon, and Margot. This beautifully blended family shared countless blessed and happy memories.

David, a highly skilled third-generation foundryman, owned Bernier Cast Metals in Saginaw. His career spanned over five decades, during which he led the company to thrive. He was a proud service life member of the American Foundry Society. He had a zest for living and an impeccable work ethic. David enjoyed fishing and boating on Michigan's bountiful lakes and rivers, adventuring (or relaxing) in the woods with a ..trustworthy dog or two by his side. He loved running, was an accomplished marathoner, enjoyed gardening in his raised beds, and after retirement, became a true expert in the art of puttering.

True to his Michigan roots, David thoroughly enjoyed the resurgence of his beloved Tigers, Lions, and (hopefully soon), Redwings. He also loved the Indy 500 and attended for years. As a sports fan, he loved watching his kids, nephews, nieces, and grandkids in track/running, hockey, and football as well as their performances.

Some of his favored places included NATPO Bear Tree Ridge (a hunting camp in the UP woods), Cabo San Lucas, and over 20 years of memories in the quintessential, 'small town America' Harrisville on Lake Huron (a 1950's style neighborhood where people loved and helped each other). Recently, he and Tammy fulfilled a bucket list item by purchasing a cottage on the west side of the state in Pentwater, also amongst wonderful people, and close to where he and his family grew up spending time at Father Bill's on Lake Michigan. David and Tammy lived a blessed life, worked hard together, and shared grand adventures in travel, camping, and various projects.

In summary, David was a wonderful man - generous, hardworking, and had a quick sense of humor. His laughter lit up a room, and his bright blue eyes were often filled with charm or a bit of mischief. Despite over a decade of serious health issues, he inspired others to embrace life with his same indomitable, resilient spirit. He left an amazing legacy, and he will be dearly missed.

Over the years, so many individuals contributed to David's life and well-being, including, and especially, Dr. Blair and Vicki Johnston, and numerous dedicated doctors and nurses who demonstrated that angels do go where others fear to tread. A special thanks to Covenant VNA Home Health and Hospice for their grace in his final days.

A Celebration of Life service, officiated by David's nephew, Pastor Austin Feuerstein, will be held on Tuesday, August 5th, 2025, at 11:00 am at Snow Funeral Home, located at 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty). Family and friends may visit from 1:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, August 4th, and 10:00 to 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 5th prior to the celebration service.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may, in lieu of flowers, consider donating to David's favorite organizations: the USO, Wounded Warrior, PragerU or the CAN Council GLBR. Covenant Healthcare Foundation might be considered as well, designated to Hospice.
